Campus map

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations defines Food Security as: "A condition in which all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.” What does the issue of food security look like in Hamilton, in other communities across Ontario and on post-secondary campuses? What are the impacts and considerations when looking to address intersecting issues around food security?

Speakers will discuss their perspectives, experiences and advocacy in relation to food security, talk about the work they do and share ideas on how students can take action and participate. During the event, attendees will also have an opportunity to meet with a variety of campus and community groups working in the area of food security. Event is free and all are welcome.

Panel speakers include:

Mike Balkwill, Put Food in the Budget

Clare Wagner, Neighbour to Neighbour Community Food Centre

Frank Chen, McMaster Student

Emergency Outreach Program, Native Women’s Centre

This event is co-sponsored by the McMaster Community Poverty Initiative, Residence Life – McMaster University, OPIRG McMaster, McMaster University’s Office of Community Engagement and Karam Kitchen.
