Researcher Congrats & Kudos

Congratulations to Rabiul Islam and Arthur Sweetman on a recent paper publication!

Their work, “Impacts of COVID-19 on Physician Labour Market Activities“, was recently published in Canadian Public Policy. It used data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS).

Funding Opportunity

The Canadian Research Data Centre Network, hosted at McMaster, is looking for a graduate student or postdoctoral researcher who is interested in using a funding opportunity to collaborate on a project related to its Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility strategy. The stipend is $27,000 with up to an additional $8,000 for project costs and travel for an approx. 8 month period.

The deadline is very near but CRDCN will work with interested researchers to develop their application. The applicant is expected to either have worked in an RDC or have an understanding of similar infrastructures. More details about this funding opportunity are available at this link.

New data sets at the RDC:

General Social Survey – Social Identity Linkages

In accordance with a record linkage request sponsored by Diversity and Sociocultural Statistics, a new release of the 2020 General Social Survey – Social Identity, Cycle 35 (GSS SI) is now available in Statistics Canada Research Data Centres. This file now includes administrative data from the T1 Family File (2015 to 2020), the Emergency and Recovery Benefits file (2020) and the Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) (2020). The micro data file comes with a user guide and data dictionaries.

The main objective of the General Social Survey on Social Identity is to provide an overall picture of Canadians’ identification, attachment, belonging and pride in their social and cultural environment. The key components of the survey include the following topics: social networks, civic participation and engagement, knowledge of Canadian history, appreciation of national symbols, shared values, confidence in institutions, and trust in people. In addition, the survey also covers people’s possible experiences of discrimination before and during the Covid-19 pandemic.

If you would like more information on how to submit a proposal for access to this data, see link.  For further inquiries about the RDC program please contact your local RDC analyst.
