Important information about extended hours, holiday closures, researcher kudos, and a new data set profile.
You may have heard of cutbacks at Statistics Canada, and sadly our RDC is not immune. Accordingly, as of July 15th we will unfortunately no longer be able to offer extended hours services on Tuesday or Thursdays evenings, or Saturdays. However, we are grateful that Anna Kata will be remaining with the RDC in a more limited administrative capacity.

This month we will have the following changes to our usual operating hours:
We will be offering one final Saturday hours this month, Saturday, July 11th – 12pm to 4pm. We will be open on an ‘appointment’ basis, only if requested. Please sign up via the online booking system.
On May 27, 2026, Lisa Kaida (Associate Professor, Sociology) appeared before the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM). Professor Kaida testified as part of the committee’s study on provincial distribution of asylum seekers. She provided testimony based on her SSHRC-funded research on the economic integration and secondary migration of resettled refugees (Privately Sponsored Refugees and Government-Assisted Refugees). Professor Kaida conducted the analysis using the Longitudinal Immigration Database (IMDB) at the McMaster RDC.

🎉 And congratulations to RDC researcher Irina Oltean, from the HRM program. She has been offered a new job with Astra Zeneca (Mississauga), and will be starting a role as an Evidence Synthesis Manager with the Safety Epidemiology team in July!

The 2023 Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Participating (SGVP) collected data regarding unpaid volunteer activities, charitable giving and participation. This dataset provides a comprehensive overview of the contributions Canadians have made by donating their time and money; it also provides data-driven information to the non-profit sector to help organizations strengthen their capacity for action, mobilize funds, recruit volunteers and manage their operations.
