RDC News: July 2020

New RDC safety protocols, hours changes for July, and a new data set.

Jun 30, 2020

REMINDER: the RDC has reopened

The RDC is open again, for its usual 9-5:30pm hours (and a reminder that extended hours are still on Tuesday/Thursday evenings until 8:30).

To ensure physical distancing we are now using an online booking system to manage researcher appointments for set time slots. A brief user guide on how to use this system can be downloaded HERE - please take the time to look over it.  Then please visit booked.mcmaster.ca/rdc/ and hit ‘Register’ on the bottom right to create an account.

Starting July 2nd there will be new booking rules in place:

  • The time slots will change slightly to 9am-1pm, 1:15pm-5:15pm, and on Tuesday/Thursdays the extended hours session is now from 5:30pm - 8:30pm. (Anybody with existing bookings should not be affected.)
  • If you are interested in extending a booking from a Tues./Thurs. afternoon into an extended hours evening session, please email Anna (rdc3@mcmaster.ca). Otherwise, the quota rule is still set for 1 booking 'block' per day.
  • We are shortening the window for booking an appointment - previously you had to book 24 hours in advance, this has now been reduced to 18 hours in advance.

New data sets at the RDC:

Canadian Perspective Survey Series 1 Impacts of COVID 19 (CPSS-COVID)

From March 29 to April 3 2020, Statistics Canada conducted the survey on the Impacts of the COVID-19. In order to implement this survey rapidly, it was conducted online only among those who volunteered to participate in the Canadian Perspectives Survey Series (CPSS). This survey will be the first of the CPSS.

The COVID-19 pandemic is currently disrupting the lives and habits of all Canadians. It is therefore necessary to quickly gather information to help understand its impacts on the physical and mental health of individuals, as well as on their social and employment circumstances.

This information will be used by government organizations, such as the Public Health Agency of Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada, and other types of organizations to evaluate the need for health and social services, as well as economic support during and after the pandemic.

For more information on this data set, please see: https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/200420/dq200420b-eng.htm

The McMaster RDC is now accepting proposals for work with this data. For information on the application process, please visit https://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/microdata/data-centres/access
