Researcher Congrats & Kudos

Kudos to Annika Bauer from the Department of Kinesiology, who worked in the RDC under the supervision of Dr. Anthea Christoforou. 

She will be joining the first cohort of the Master’s program SpaceMed (and on a full ride scholarship!). The program is a collaboration between the University of Caen (France), Charité (Germany) and the Mednarodna podiplomska šola Jožefa Stefana (Slovenia), focusing on exploring the impact of space travel and extreme environmental conditions on human physiology. The program offers the opportunity to conduct research in collaboration with a range of space agencies and research institutions, as well as participate in unique field studies such as parabolic flights.

This is an amazing and unique opportunity, congratulations! 

New data sets at the RDC: 

Canadian Partnership Against Cancer – All Years Linkage

This microdata linkage allows researchers to examine the short and long term income of adult cancer survivors from across Canada. The specific aims of this project are: to describe patterns of income for a cohort of cancer survivors over time, as measured by net household and net individual income from the T1 Family File (T1FF) and on the Longitudinal Administrative Databank (LAD) for a cohort of controls; to estimate the effect of clinical factors (e.g., data of diagnosis, age at diagnosis, and tumour type) and sociodemographic factors (e.g., immigration status, income, urban/rural indicator, province/territory and health region) on household and individuals; and to examine differences in the impact of cancer on income for: women and men; different age at diagnosis groups; different provinces/territories, health regions and urban/rural locations.

A cohort of cancer survivors who had a cancer diagnosis between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2017 was constructed using the Canadian Cancer Registry (CCR) linked to the T1FF (1992 to 2017) and to the Vital Statistics – Death Database (CVSD) (2000 to 2017). A cohort of controls formed by those who did not have a cancer diagnosis during the same period was also created using the LAD (1992 to 2017) records that were not linked to the CCR; these LAD records were also linked to the CVSD.

This data release includes non-confidential documentation that can be provided to researchers outside an RDC. Please contact your local RDC Analyst if you would like a copy.
