New data sets at the RDC:

Survey of Household Spending – Cancer Cost linkage

This data integration project brings together data from the Survey of Household Spending (SHS), the Canadian Cancer registry (CCR), the Discharge Abstract Database (DAD), the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), the Ontario Mental Health Reporting System (OMHRS), the Canadian Vital Statistics – Death Database (CVSD), and the T1 Family (T1FF).

The purpose of this research project is to leverage existing data in Canada to better understand the full scope and magnitude of the economic burden of out-of-pocket costs paid by cancer patients and survivors for medical and non-medical care and how it differs between jurisdictions, cancer type and relevant patient sub-populations. The overarching aim of this project is to provide the required tools to conduct research that may help identify policy and practice options to mitigate the financial barriers to cancer treatments and care that exist for patients and their families.

For this linkage, researchers do need to request and be approved for access to the SHS 2010 - 2017.

If you would like more information on how to submit a proposal for access to this data see https://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/microdata/data-centres/access.  For more information about the RDC program please contact your local RDC analyst.
